Students at Sanders have access to a nice resource full of animated picture books.  Visit TumbleBooks to have books read to you, play a game, and build those reading comprehension skills!

A book posted in installments and told by multiple authors!  What a wonderful idea from the Library of Congress and The Center for the Book.  The Exquisite Corpse Adventure brings exciting storytelling to the web through a book written in installments by a variety of authors.  Readers may sign up for email updates or RSS feed when the new installments are published.  What an exciting  and suspenseful way to read a book!

Take a look at this year’s Georgia Children’s Book award nominees.  We have each of these books in the library available for checkout.

We will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair August 31st- September 4th.  All classes will have an opportunity to visit the fair and purchase books.  We will also be open during Open House night on September 3rd!  Bring the whole family!  We cannot wait for everyone to see the wonderful books provided by Scholastic.  See you there!

Please make sure that you visit the local Public Libraries over the summer break.  The libraries are offering a summer reading program and a variety of reading times and activities for all ages.  Not sure what your child should read?  Ask the librarians!  They have summer reading lists from all of  the schools and can assist you with finding terrific books.  As always, make sure that the books appeal to the child and is on his or her reading level.  Be sure to provide a comfy spot for reading and at least 20 minutes of quiet time for this purpose.  AND HAVE FUN!

The Pickle Patch Book Fair parked in our busport this week for a very successful fair! The kids loved visiting the bus and seeing the wide variety of books. Thank you Lindsay Morris for all of your hardwork!

Book Fair Bus

Our Fourth grade classes really enjoyed the Planetarium last week.  It was set up in the Library and each class studied the constellations with Mrs. Weaver, the science teacher.  The students also spent  time on the Cobb Virtual Library researching the stars and planets while waiting their turn to go into the planetarium.

Access the Destiny library catalog from any computer by visiting the Cobb Virtual Library site and clicking on “Destiny”.  Choose “Sanders” from the drop down arrow and begin searching!

Welcome to the Sanders Library blog!  I will be posting lots of useful information for teachers, students and parents throughout the school year.   Our big news this year is that we are now able to search for books at home!  Our catalog may be accessed through the Cobb Virtual Library site at http://cvl.cobbk12.org.  Click on the elementary button and then click on the Destiny button.  Choose Sanders Elementary from the pull-down tab and get ready to search for books!  The CVL site requires passwords for home use.  The passwords are posted in the library and on a sticker in your child’s agenda.  Happy reading and Happy researching!
